Vela terms of use
Last updated 23 September 2026
These terms apply when you use Vela, an app made by Andrei Bogoslovskii. You get Vela from the App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies as well. Where the two differ, Apple's agreement takes precedence for the licence itself; these terms add what is specific to Vela.
What Vela is — and what it isn't
Vela lets one iPhone show and let you hear a room through another iPhone, and tells you when it recognises certain sounds or loses the link.
Vela is not a medical device, a safety device or a replacement for looking in on your child. It does not monitor breathing, movement or health, and it cannot prevent harm. Sound recognition can miss a sound or mistake one sound for another. A connection can drop because of Wi‑Fi, battery, heat, a phone call, iOS or anything else outside the app's control; Vela tries to tell you when that happens, but it can't guarantee it will. Please don't rely on Vela as your only way of knowing your child is well.
Using Vela
- Use it only to watch spaces and people you are entitled to watch, and follow the laws where you live about recording video and sound of other people.
- Keep the phone by the cot plugged in, out of a child's reach, and away from bedding and anything it could overheat against.
- Don't try to reverse-engineer, resell or misuse the app.
The one-time purchase
Pairing, live video and sound at home, alerts and talking back are free. An optional one-time purchase adds features that are listed in the app before you buy. It is not a subscription and does not renew. Payment, refunds and restoring the purchase on a new phone are handled by Apple under the App Store's terms; refunds can be requested at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Changes to the app
Vela will change as it improves. Features may be added, changed or, rarely, removed. If a feature included in the purchase is ever removed, I'll say so on this page and in the app's release notes.
Liability
Vela is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those the law requires. To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss or harm that arises from using or being unable to use Vela, including a missed alert or a lost connection. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by law.
Privacy
How Vela handles video, sound and data is described in the privacy policy.
